Eligibility: Eligibility varies by community. However, generally to be eligible:
-Household income must not exceed the area median income percentage for the household size
-At least one person in the household must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
-Household size must meet occupancy guidelines. One bedroom is allowed for the head of the household and co-head/spouse, and one bedroom is allowed for every two people after that, regardless of age or gender
-Applicants can apply for all waitlists they qualify for, regardless of whether they previously applied during other openings


Priority status granted to:
-Individuals who have a terminal illness and are diagnosed by a medical provider with a life expectancy of 12 months or less
-Individuals with a disability who require housing with access features such as wheelchair accommodations and individuals eligible for in-home Medicaid services that require assistance with meals, bathing, laundry, and housekeeping to stop or delay premature entry into a nursing facility or adult foster care

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Visit website for information on public housing availability. For most units, applications are only accepted when a community is added to the open waiting list. The estimated wait time can range from a year to several years.
FEES: Rents vary by apartment and program type. Rent amounts in public housing are set at approximately 28.5%-31% of the household's monthly income. Rents at apartment communities that are not subsidized public housing generally are set below fair market rates.
