TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES
Provides cash assistance to low-income families with children while they strive to become self-sufficient. Cash assistance is intended to meet a family's basic needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, and utilities. TANF recipients may be able to participate in the Jobs Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program, which assists with obtaining a high school diploma or GED, as well as job preparation and life skills

Eligibility: -Low-income families with children under age 18 or pregnant women in the 9th month of pregnancy or if the parent is under age 18 must be head of their household
-Live in Oregon
-Have very low or no income and very few resources (such as property, vehicles, or bank accounts)

The applicant must be a US Citizen or a qualified non-citizen. Parents without US Citizenship can apply for benefits for children who are US Citizens.

INTAKE PROCEDURE: Apply online, by phone, or in person at a local office (Processing Centers do NOT offer any in-person services)
Once the application has been submitted:
-The local DHS office will call the applicant to set up an in-person or phone interview appointment
-Applicants can contact the local DHS office to set up the interview appointment
-DHS workers may not leave messages on voicemails that do not announce the applicant's name in the greeting of the voicemail
FEES: None
DOCUMENTS: Proof of ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers (SSN) for all members of the family who want benefits, and proof of immigration status (if applicable). Applicants who have trouble obtaining proof of income or other documents can have an eligibility worker help them obtain income verification and other needed information
