HEALTHY BIRTH INITIATIVE (HBI)
The Healthy Birth Initiative program addresses two vital public health services: maternal-child health and reducing health inequity related to low-birth weight and infant mortality in the African American community. Services include home visits, health education, and support groups from pregnancy through the child's second year. Major focus is to involve the father or father figure in the health of the family. Also offers reduced-cost car seats, as well as certified assistance in installation.

Eligibility: Pregnant African American women who are less than 18 weeks gestation are eligible for home visiting services. Those over 18 weeks gestation are still eligible to participate in support groups and classes.
