Accepts commendations from the public for good police work, as well as accepting and investigating complaints of Portland Police Bureau (PPB) misconduct. Independent Police Review division offers civilian oversight of Portland Police Bureau, monitors internal affairs investigations, and recommends policy changes to City Council and Chief of Police.

Enforces civil and select criminal laws on behalf of the State of Oregon including laws related to charitable activities, civil recovery, child support enforcement, child welfare advocacy, financial fraud and consumer protection, and Medicaid fraud. Also fields consumer complaints.

Provides consumer information, referrals and complaint resolution services for consumer complaints involving unfair and deceptive business practices. Provides information on a wide range of topics of interest to consumers, including identity theft, debt management, refund rights, and scams that target elderly individuals. Provides brochures on a variety of consumer topics by mail and downloadable website brochures.
